Easter projects

Hello Year 6!

We hope you have a lovely (well-deserved) break for the next 2 weeks.

However, we also know that some of you enjoy doing activities and projects, so we thought we would set some in case you wanted them.

These are completely optional though!

Next half-term we will be foccussing on the topic ‘Hola Mexico’ in our Geography, History, Art and Design Technology lessons. In Science we will be revising Physics including Light, Electricity and Earth and Space, so projects based around these would be helpful.

We will also be looking at the book 'Call of the Wild' in English - so if you want to get a head-start on reading that you could!

(Also - remember to keep checking up on the caterpillar updates!)

Possible tasks:

  • Chichén Itzá is a popular tourist attraction, made be the Mayan civilisation over a thousand years ago. Research other attractions, human and physical, in South America. Why not have a go at recreating an attraction using materials at home such as recycling waste or old clothes.

Human and physical features in South America

  • South America is home to the Amazon Rainforest. Complete an in-depth geographical study of the rainforest by researching the climate, type of biome and vegetation (plants and trees). What animals live in the Amazon? Why is the Amazon river important? Finally research why the Amazon rainforest is in danger.

  • The Mexican Tree of Life. traditionally the tree sculpture would include Adam and Eve with the tempting Serpent but the themes have evolved and today is common to find trees about various subjects such as Day of the Dead. Design and draw your own Tree of Life – you could even make a 3D tree sculpture.
  • Does this circuit work? Create a quiz made up of circuit drawings, using the correct symbols, for an adult to work out whether it will work or not. You could prepare a knowledge round by asking key questions on circuits for example do electrons flow from the negative or positive end of a battery?

  • Are shadows bigger in the morning, afternoon or evening? Complete a scientific investigation to answer the question. This could include observing shadow in the same location (fair test) and making observational drawings.

  • Could we live on Mars? There are 8 planets in our solar system, including Earth. Research why we cannot live on the other planets. Points to consider: Distance from the sun, length of year, atmosphere it is made from, temperature and moons.
