LO: To explore the features of a biography.  

Resources

English book, blue pen, pencil, ruler and green pen.

 

Terminology

WAGOLL - what a good one looks like.

Biography – an account of someone else’s life written by someone else.

Emotive language – words used to evoke emotion in the reader.

Parenthesis – part of a sentence that gives extra information. It is usually demarcated with brackets, dashes or commas.

Rhetorical questions – a question someone asks without expecting an answer. The question might not have an answer or it might have an obvious answer.

3rd person - writing from a third person point of view using pronouns like he, she, it or they.

Instructions

Click ‘Start Lesson’. First, complete the quiz and record your score in your English book. Then click ‘Next Activity’.

 

Read these instructions then watch the video. The teacher will explain when to pause. Complete all work in your English book under your Date and LO.

 

Word of the day – Pause the video once the word of the day is introduced. Write the word and meaning into your book then use the word in two different sentences and find synonyms and antonyms.

 

INDEPENDENT TASK- Listen to the explanation and then pause and close the video. Click ‘Next Activity’.

Go to slides 2-7 which show the task that you need to complete.

In your book, write the key features that you have identified in the text (emotive language / parenthesis / rhetorical question / 3rd person).

 

Set it out in your book like the example below -

Then, resume the video and mark your work in green pen.

 

Spellings- This is additional spelling work to your normal spelling test which will still be on Thursday.

 

Again, click ‘Next Activity’ and complete the ‘Final Quiz’. Record your score in your English book.
