To use reading skills to answer comprehension questions

Homework book, blue pen and green pen.

Don’t forget to complete the ‘Start Quiz’. Record your score in your Homework book.

Then, scroll up to the top of the page and click ‘Next Activity’.

Before starting, Mrs Fozzard will explain her reading challenge for you – this is optional. Always ask a parent/carer for their permission to take part in challenges that involve social media.

Word of the day (astonishment)– Pause the video once the word of the day is introduced. Write the word and meaning into your book then use the word in two different sentences and find synonyms and antonyms. Again, answer the question she displays on the slides.

Mrs Fozzard will read the next chapter of the book that you will be reading this week, The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. Make sure you follow along. You may want to make notes if you think it will be useful.

Mrs Fozzard will recap how to answer reading comprehension questions and then introduce the new skill, predicting, that you will be focusing on this lesson. You may want to make notes on the skills needed to answer a prediction question.

INDEPENDENT TASK - Write out the questions into your Homework books then read the extract. Answer the questions then resume the video to mark your work.

Extension activity – Create a glossary of any interesting or unusual vocabulary used in the extract.  Can you reuse any of them in your own sentences?

Spellings- Note down the spellings, (also available on the school website) and learn them using Look, Cover, Write and Check. Ensure you know the meaning of each word and try to use them in your writing or in a sentence.

Make sure you complete the final quiz. Record your score out of 5, in your Homework book.
