LO: To use direct and indirect speech in a newspaper report.

English book, blue pen, pencil, ruler and green pen.

Click ‘Start Lesson’ and complete the quiz. Record your score in your English book.

Then click ‘Next Activity’.

When the video starts, you will be asked to complete the spelling test. Complete this in your English book under your Date and LO. Please mark your spelling test in green pen and record it in your English book. Remember to continue practising any words that you did not spell correctly.

Planning – Decide what your newspaper report will be about (some ideas - football, pollution, litter that has been left behind in parks/beaches, zoos reopening, sport, endangered animals. You could make something up if you would like to.

Create a name for your newspaper and think about your headline

Magpie some vocabulary from the slides. There is a box of additional vocabulary below that you could also use.

Make a list of the success criteria in your book (capital letters, full stops, adjectives, direct speech, indirect speech, parenthesis and paragraphs).

Please make sure that you are writing in blue pen and focusing on your handwriting. Remember to join some letters too. Look back at your writing feedback from your teacher. Try to achieve this in today’s piece of writing.

Structure – the teacher will go through the structure of your newspaper report and what you should focus on in each paragraph. When the teacher tells you to, pause the video and make planning notes in your English book. You will then write each paragraph. Remember to keep referring back to the success criteria.

Editing –

Listen to the teacher as he edits his writing. Then close the video and edit your work. You might want to have a little break first and come back to your writing to edit at another time. Use the success criteria and vocabulary on the slides to help you. Using your green pen, proof-read your work checking capital letters, full stops, commas, speech punctuation and spelling. Then look for words/phrases/clauses that you could edit. Do you need to remove some, add some or substitute them for better ones? Finally, read your writing aloud and make any further changes.

There is no quiz to complete.
