LO: To identify how to build cohesion in instructional texts.

Resources (including
exercise book being used)

English book, blue pen, pencil, ruler and green pen.

Cohesive devices – devices that help create a logical order and flow in the text.

Pronoun – a word that can be used to replace a noun e.g. he/she/it

Synonyms – a word/phrase that is similar in meaning to another word/phrase

Conjunctions – links ideas within a sentence.

Adverbial - a word or phrase that modifies the verb (can be time, manner or place)

Imperative verbs – verbs that create an imperative sentence – a sentence that gives an order / command

Organisational features – features that assist the reader to complete the instructions in the correct order e.g. headings, subheadings, bullet points etc

Click ‘Start Lesson’ then complete the quiz. Record your score in your English book.

Click ‘Next Activity’.

Read these instructions then watch the video. The teacher will explain when to pause. Complete all work in your English book under your Date and LO, not on a sheet of paper. You can reply to the teacher out loud just like a real lesson!

Word of the day – Pause the video once the word of the day is introduced. Write the word and meaning into your book then use the word in two different sentences.

When it says ‘Your turn’, write down the cohesive devices that you have found in your book. Then mark in green pen when the teacher tells you the answer.

INDEPENDENT TASK- Listen to the explanation and then pause the video and close the video. Click ‘Next Activity’.

Slide 2 gives you the instructions.

Slides 3 and 4 shows the text.

In your English book, complete the task. Then, resume the video and mark your work in green pen.

Spellings- This is additional spelling work to your normal spelling test which will still be on a Friday.

Again, click ‘Next Activity’ and complete the ‘Exit quiz’. Record your score in your English book then send your English and Maths score to your class teacher when you send your ‘Good Morning’ message on I Am Learning tomorrow. You may also want to share your fantastic sentences with your teacher!

Please make sure you practise the spellings that you have learnt this week on Oak National Academy as you will be tested in tomorrow’s lesson. Remember, this is separate to the spelling test that you normally have on Friday.
