Please do not begin this work until Friday 26th June 2020

Good morning Year 5

Remember, your first job is to log on to I Am Learning by 10 am – your teacher can see that you have logged on.

If you run out of space in any exercise books (orange Maths or yellow English book), please ask an adult to contact the office to arrange to pick up a new one.

PE with Joe Wicks (30 minutes)

Optional PE: complete a daily challenge

Important - Writing task

When you have completed your writing today (which can be found by clicking on the English icon above) and edited it thoroughly, please ask your parents to email it to the school office and write in the email your name and teacher’s name. Your parents can scan your writing in or take a photograph (make sure it is clear so that we can read your writing).

The deadline to email your work in is Tuesday 30th June.

Your teacher will then send you some feedback. When you receive your feedback, use a green pen to write it underneath your piece of writing in your book. We look forward to reading your balanced arguments!

Spelling (20 minutes)

Follow the link below. Select year 5&6 then click on book number 10 to revise some of the spellings from our word list.

Arithmetic (20 minutes)

Mark your work from yesterday (Fractions, decimals and percentages). You will find the answers at the top of this page. Then complete the task on My Maths ‘Frac, dec, perc 1’. Remember that it is a good idea to have some paper to make jottings.

Reading (10 minutes)

Continue to read this week’s edition of First News. You can find this on our website / children / class pages / First news / First News 19th June - 25th June. Tell someone at home something that you have found out from this week’s edition.

Grammar (20 minutes)

Complete the task on I am Learning ‘Prefix meanings’.

Geography (1 ½ hours)

Task 1: Look at the Mountains PDF and use these websites or to name these UK Mountain ranges. Note: they are not in the correct order of course!

They are:

  • Southern Uplands
  • Grampians
  • Dartmoor
  • North York Moors
  • Lake District
  • Peak District
  • Snowdonia
  • Brecon Beacons
  • Cambrian
  • Pennines

Task 2: Would you like to live in the mountains? How would living in the mountains be different from your current life?

Your task: Think of what it would be like to live in an area with mountains. There are different points of view. Some people would love mountain life, whereas others would find it less fulfilling. List the different points of view that people living in a mountain area would say. Group your statements into two groups, those in favour and those against.

For example: ‘I love living in the mountains because of the amazing view’. I dislike living in the mountains because there are fewer job opportunities.’

Share your ideas with someone at home. Ask for their opinion.

Optional: Research the layers of a mountain. Create a 3D model of the layers inside a mountain using plasticine/play dough (see picture below). You can send in pictures to the school office email (on the website) – just make sure you include FAO and your teacher’s name.

Votes for Schools (30 minutes)

See this information on the class pages. Discuss your thoughts with your family. Finally, follow the instructions on the page to vote using the link to survey monkey.

Have a look on our Distance Learning page for information about our Virtual Sports Day next week.
