Magic Maths – What is the number?


To Start (Slide 2)- Complete the number trees. Don’t worry about the shapes- use 1 square in your book to write each number in copying the pattern on the screen.


Now listen to the explanations on the video and complete the activities you are asked to do.


Moving on (Slide 3)- Can you work out how many blocks would be needed to make the first 6 steps in the sequence? What is the rule? Explain.


Main Task (Slide 4): What other patterns can you spot if you break it down even more? Fill in the table.


Challenge (Slide 5)- Using what you know, how can you work out the number of blocks for ANY step number?
