Year 5 Venture Activities Residential 2023 Expression of Interest letter
What is VotesforSchools?
Each week, VotesforSchools provides lessons to children all over the country, asking them about the issues that matter to them. Their votes are recorded and sent out to charities, organisations & decision-makers to help make a difference.
Week commencing 16th October 2023
This week VFS have been fortunate to work with Facing History & Ourselves on this VoteTopic, which focuses on the news, impartiality, and differentiating fact from fiction. By exploring the ways that opinion is expressed in news reporting, children will reflect on how helpful personal views are in expanding our understanding of the wider world. They will then vote on the question: “Should opinions be shared as part of news reporting?”
Make it Fun!
Why not have a family debate: split into teams - those for and those against or individually if you prefer; give each person/team 5 minutes each to put their argument forward. This is a wonderful opportunity to practise those persuasive debating skills as a family! Who knows - our future politicians or even Prime Minister might be among us!
We would love to see your photographs - family debates, giving your speech (Prime Minister style of course!) or other great ways you are enjoying VotesforSchools! Send them by email to your Year Group.
Presentation of Adoption Certificate
The School Council of 2021 completed the work they had started in collaboration with the Canal and River Trust. The great work of the Paddock Active Climate Change Group in enhancing and improving the Paddock section of canal culminated in the presentation of the Adoption Certificate of the section with its nine locks. Representatives from school were invited to the ceremony attended by members of the PACCG, the Canal and River Trust and Professor Gatrad, founder of WASUP (Walsall Against Single Use Plastic).
The current School Council will now continue our partnership with these groups in supporting this important work. Their first job in the near future will be to prepare the two canal side planters for the Summer so that those that use the towpath can enjoy the tranquil surroundings in even more beauty.
