Tuesday 23rd June

Good morning Year 4!

If you haven't done so already, make sure you check out our Year 4 Storytime page to listen to the story of 'Flat Stanley'.

Remember, for spelling, we are now completing a task on I am learning each week. You can still do a spelling test at home but please make sure you complete this task today as it will show you whether you understand the meaning of the homophones we are studying.

Spelling- Log onto I Am Learning and complete the spelling homework that has been set. You will be asked to select the correct spelling for each sentence. Make sure your spelling words are hidden- don’t be tempted to look!

You can also ask someone to test you on your spellings if you would like:

accept  except  whether weather whose who’s  air heir sight site

Your teacher will see your score on I Am Learning.

Look Cover Write these words:

Affect effect which witch pair pear ball bawl waist waste

We are still looking at homophones (words that sound the same but have a different spelling and meaning). For these words, you must know the definition so you know which spelling to choose when writing the word in a sentence.

Some of these are tricky words- ask someone at home to help you pronounce any you are unsure about.

Do this in a notebook at home, if you do not have a spare notebook, use your small, beige notebook.

If you don’t know the meaning of any of these words, look them up in a dictionary or on https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/learner-english/

You could practise the words using stained glass spelling or spelling ladders.

Handwriting- Do this in your English book

Multiplication - Times Tables Rockstars- Yesterday, Year 4 were winning!

Design and Technology- Week 4 – Invent

You will need access to your research from last week.

One of Alfred’s biggest concerns is that he will be attacked by the local villagers. Your task this week is to come up with designs that could help protect the castle from attacks. For example, a deep moat filled with water or an incredibly tall keep. Be imaginative but realistic. 1000 years ago he would not have had access to electricity so definitely could not have lasers or sensors to help!
You need to try to invent 2 different designs for how the castle could be protected. Make sure you include labels to explain the features you have chosen. You can present your work digitally or do this on paper.

Optional Task: Alfred would like to hold an opening ceremony when the castle is completed. You need to research Norman food and come up with some ideas for a magnificent feast suitable for his grand ceremony. You must use food that the Normans actually ate in your menu.

PE- Choose an activity to complete for 30 minutes

Optional: Complete a daily challenge https://www.parkhalljuniorac.co.uk/pe-activities/
