How to Borrow a Book                Reading Cloud Login

    Come on! Let's get reading!

Children at Park Hall Junior Academy love to read, and they enjoy inspiring others to reading the books that have made them giggle with delight or those that have an air of mystery to them!  Mrs Amos will often purchase books that children have recommended so that all children have the opportunity to read the book too.

We hope that you enjoy reading the reviews below, written by children, for children!  If you like the sound of the book, give it a read and go off on your reading adventure!

Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Layla

I think that the book is very funny to read as it has a lot of jokes in it. In fact, all children will love to read this book! You will find it very tempting to read. The story is all about a kid called Greg and his life at home and school. He wants to be popular and tries so hard to be part of the popular friends! You are guaranteed to laugh so much! Did you know, this book has sold over 250 million books and there are other titles too? I hope you enjoy reading the Jeff Kinney books as much as I do!

Review of The Beasts of Knobbly Bottom Attack of The Vampire Sheep by Niharika

I loved this book; it was scary but also hilarious. My favourite bit was chapter 2. I can’t say why because it will give too much away, but I will say that it was so funny I kept going back to read it, and when you do, you will know why!

This book is based in Knobbly Bottom, a little village in England. Maggie, with her sister and mum move here and soon after Maggie discovers that the village is full of secrets. Something strange starts happening to the sheep…they start growing fangs, their eyes turn red and they’re about to take over the world! Luckily there is Maggie McKay, who will do anything to stop them…even if no one believes her like her mum, who thinks she's just making up silly stories. But luckily there is this strange old lady called Nan Helsing who believes her. Maggie decides to do a stakeout in the middle of the night...only to find there’s now hundreds of vampire sheep, with a leader charging right for her, her sister and new best friend Fred, what will they do…?   If you loved this book you have got to read "The beast of knobbly bottom rise of the zombie pig’s" Book 2.  It certainly sounds like a great series of books to read!

    The BFG reviewed by Akshay!

The BFG tells us about a little girl named Sophie. She woke up and got lifted and kidnapped by a giant. Because he is friendly, they become friends. The BFG told Sophie all about the other giants like for example, Bonecruncher and Bloodbottler. The other giants came to visit the BFG and he offered them a snozzcumber to eat but Sophie had hidden in there. The giant spat the snozzcumber out and Sophie was spat out too! This shocked me. Sophie and the BFG got to visit the Queen’s Palace and they sat on the window where they ate some of the food that the queen had offered them. I liked the bit at the end when the Queen’s army played a prank! I think you would enjoyed reading the book as much as I did!

Seva’s Book Review for ‘Isadora Moon and the New Girl’

This story is about a girl called Isadora and she is half-fairy, half-vampire. Isadora approaches a new girl named Ava who isn’t very nice to her. She said that Isadora’s teddy (pink rabbit) is too babyish and it’s embarrassing to have a teddy bear at her age. I will not tell you anymore but I think this is one of the best books I have ever read! I got this book from the book fair and I also have read 2 other books from this series. I highly recommend this fabulous book and it was so good I almost couldn’t put it down. I rate this book a 10/10!

Ariya’s Book Review for ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning’

This book is about the ghastly lives of the Baudelaire siblings, a book with no happy ending, but the best book I have ever read. This is a whole other level from Dork Diaries, Dog Man and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It is so good I read a hundred and sixty two pages in less than twelve waking hours!

It was good because the three Baudelaire orphans use perplexing vocabulary and adults ask what it means, so now I know what it means. Also they get underestimated a lot, but the Baudelaire orphans are really nice therefore they don’t interrupt so I know a lot of new words from that as well. Also I can’t think of anything bad to say about this book.

Nihaal’s Book Review for ‘I swapped My Brother on the Internet!’

This story is about a boy called Jonny who has an older brother called Ted. Ted doesn’t treat him very well. So one day, Jonny uses an app on his computer called ‘Sibling Swap’ where he trades Ted for a boy called Mervyn. The only problem is he is half boy and half mermaid! Jonny decides to trade again, will he ever find the perfect brother? Read the book to find out.  Nihaal gives this book 5 stars saying “My favourite part was when Henry VIII fools Jonny’s mum. I think anyone with siblings will particularly enjoy this book. My little brother wanted to know if the Sibling Swap app was real, I’m not sure why…”  Thank you Nihaal - the book sounds so good, we are going to get it for the library in school!

    The Minpins.  Reviewed by Ayva

It all starts when a little boy named Billy is at home looking out of the window when he sees a forest. One day he goes to his mum and asks about why he isn’t allowed to go there. “It is not safe!” said his mum. After, he does go into the woods searching around. Then he met some tiny people. They were Minpins! One of the Minpins asked him if he knows the dragon. Billy said that he doesn’t know the dragon but he still has a plan to get rid of it. He goes with the Minpin to the pond to see if the dragon can smell them. The minpin nodded. “If we go near the pond he can sniff us there and because of all the smoke that comes out of his nose he will fall into the pond.” replied Billy quietly, “WOW” gasped a Minpin. So they ran as fast as they could through the leafy trees and stood next to the pond. The dragon came and because of all of the smoke he had breathed out he couldn’t see, neither could Billy! Then with a ginormous SPLASH the dragon fell into the deep pond. The Minpin replied “Thank you!” So now he had gone home. “What happened to your clothes!” Billy’s mum exclaimed. “I was just climbing the trees.” said Billy looking at his mum. His mum let him climb the trees “But try not to get your clothes even more filthy.” commanded mum. “

My favourite parts of the book are: 1. When Billy meets the Minpins in the forest, 2. When Billy saves the Minpins from the red dragon and 3. When a Minpin shows Billy their house (it is tiny!)  I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars!

    Demon Dentist by Jasleen

This is about Alfie, a little 11 year old boy.  He had a dentist visiting his school when he quickly realised she was an evil witch… because he went to the dentist and she took out all his teeth!  He and Raj (a newsagent) put a tooth under his pillow and woke up to… a live spooky eyeball!  The next day this evil witch came over to the school again (oh no!) And she gave him a toothpaste which read ‘MUMMY’S TOOTHPASTE.’  He dropped it accidentally out of his pocket and it burnt the cement! … This book sounds scary but it is hilarious!  You should read it too if you have not done so yet!

Nishaan and Amaya both recommend that you read this book because you will find it funny and entertaining. It is a story about a girl who cannot control her magic finger and is especially upset by injustices. Suddenly, a sort of flash comes out of her like electricity. I will not share what happens next because you will find out when you read the book! Happy reading.
