    PCSO Littlehales

Children had an important message shared with them about keeping safe in the local community.  Thank you to Arjun for his letter to PCSO Littlehales:

    Dear PCSO Littlehales,

I am writing to say thank you for teaching us about lots of different ways to keep safe.  I appreciate that you took up your own time to come and teach us.  I have a question for you.  How did you know all of this information?

Interestingly, one of my favourite things that we did with you was the phonetic alphabet.  I did not know anything about the phonetic alphabet until you came.  I even remember some of the letters such as: A=Alpha, B=Bravo, H=Hotel and W=Whiskey.  Another thing I enjoyed a lot was the information you shared about Neighbourhood Watch.  I couldn't believe that they raised enough money to buy a defibrillator (something that zaps an electric shock into someone, usually when they are having a heart attack).  It is kept in the local church.  I also learnt that The Neighbourhood Watch have their own WhatsApp Group and there are over 1000 people in it.

Also, I would like to tell you about how I liked learning about keeping our cars safe since that is very important.  I learnt that it is safe to put a lock on your steering wheel and have cameras in your driveway.  You can also put driveway poles on your drive exits to prevent being burgled, which is a bad thing to happen.

Learning about mobile phone safety was also important.  I know not to put my phone in my back pocket when I get one as it sticks out and then anyone can get it and steal it.  I would like to know more about phone safety when you come again please as it is very important.  I would also like to know more about transport safety and staying safe when out and about in the streets because I go to secondary school soon.

Thank you so much for come and teaching us about all of these things.  Thank you for taking up your own time to come and teach us because it is very kind of you.

    Yours sincerely,

    Arjun

Snakes and Ladders in English lessons?

Who would have thought a game of snakes and ladders would help us to learn about verb agreement?  Well, Miss Ragdale and her class of children did just that!  The explored the verb 'to be' and identified singular and plural 'who' with am, is, are, was, were and will be.  Then, using snakes and ladders, the children chose pronouns and verbs and if the subject and verb agreed the children could move their counter the correct number of spaces.  A great way to enjoy learning grammar!

    Science

Lee Sanders came to work with Year 6 in January to share with them how our bodies work.  Children learnt about the importance of healthy eating and exercise to keep our bodies healthy.  They listened to how muscles work when we are exercising and the children related their learning to when they were eating and running around during their lunch break.

    Painting in Maths?

Children in Year 6 compared ratio using paint in their Mathematics lesson.  During their learning, children realised that the ratio of black paint needed to be much lesson than a lighter colour.  Harrison told me the darker the colour, the less the ratio of the lighter colour is needed.  Children understood that the concept of keeping parts of equal value and the ratio of paint amounts depended on whether the children wanted the colour to be darker or lighter.

Year Six took part in a fantastic Swim Safety and Mini Medics session with the ‘Super Sharky’ team who came into school to teach them all about staying safe in and around water and the basics of first aid.

The children learnt how to keep themselves safe near swimming pools, rivers, lakes, and other open water, as well as what to do in an emergency if someone has fallen into water. They also explored the meanings of different triangular safety signs and why they are so important.

As part of the Mini Medics section, the children looked at basic first aid, including what you might find in a first aid kit, common medical conditions, and what to do if an emergency happens. They were taught and shown how to perform CPR, talked about where their local defibrillator is, how a defibrillator works, and how to access one safely. The children even had a go at practising the recovery position.

I think all children would agree that it was a valuable and informative session. Well done Year Six!

Welcome to our house captains for 2025 - 2026.  The eight children chosen had                         prepared a speech which they recorded for the whole school to watch.  Children from all year groups then had the opportunity to vote for the children they wanted as their house captain.  After the formal voting took place, counting begun and the following children were elected:  Eve and Rayan, Jovan and Quynh, Shaan and Rishi, Ruben and Pavleen.  Huge congratulations because you are going to be fantastic!

Children across school have already been working hard in class and many of our house point tokens have been collected as recognition.

Also, introducing to you are our Year 6 School Councillors!   Ishaan, Avanie and Harkiran have already started their role as a councillor by holding a non-uniform day to raise money for our local charity.  We look forward to hearing what ideas they bring to the meetings.  More recently, the children have been encouraging children in the year group to bring in food items to help our the Black Country Foodbank.  They will soon be visiting Alan with the goods and seeing what happens while they are there.

All of Year 6 have settled in brilliantly this half term! In Science, the children enjoyed hands-on experiments exploring burning, viscosity, and testing which melts ice fastest—salt or rock salt. In Geography, they have been learning all about the UK, and in PE, children have really enjoyed developing their skills in Tag Rugby!

Our residential trip to Condover was a real highlight, with activities like archery, aerial trek, aeroball, and a mini Olympics helping to build teamwork and friendships.  Those who stayed behind created a fantastic library display showcasing expectations in the library.

English lessons have been enjoyable with children learning about the real Grimm fairy tales!

We’re looking forward to an exciting next half term, with new learning in History and Design & Technology!
