    Science in Year 3

It was great to visit Year 3 and see what they have been learning so far in Science.  I found out that sound travels through the ear and that the auditory bones hit the ear drum so we can hear.  Children were able to share their factual knowledge about sound.  Awra told Mrs Amos that she enjoys learning about her ears because she could understand what the doctor was telling her when she paid him a visit!  During an investigation and using the boomwhackers, children could identify low pitch and high pitch sounds.  They compared pitch and volume.  Zayden was able to share that the orange boomwhacker made a lower pitch compared to the blue boomwhacker making a higher pitch.  Aria was also able to confidently explain her reasons for why the boomwhackers were louder or quieter using the scientific language introduced to them.

We are delighted to meet our Year 3 school councillors!  They are already working hard for the Black Country Foodbank and have presented an assembly to their class.  Food is now coming into school ready for the children to deliver the food to the food bank to support families in the community.

Autumn term has been great for Year 3 who have settled brilliantly at Park Hall Junior Academy and are quickly developing their understanding of our PROUD expectations.  In English, the children have enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities to strengthen their writing skills and have loved exploring Cinderella of the Nile, making thoughtful comparisons to the traditional Cinderella story.

In Maths, the children have been building a strong understanding of place value and beginning to apply their mental addition strategies, such as partitioning numbers.  The children have also shown real enthusiasm in our Art Design lessons where they have been experimenting with charcoal to explore light and dark as well as developing their shading techniques.

What a fantastic start to life at the Junior School – we are so proud of their efforts and achievements this half term.
