    Music in the Curriculum

It has been a joy spending time in Class 6 to see the children working hard on their raps in Music lessons.  The rap they recited as a class gave a very clear message that bullying must stop and we should treat everyone with kindness and respect.  Children were working in pairs to use the rap they have been learning to create a verse of their own.  Evan and Ruby worked great as a team and created the following:

Why are you bullying? That's not nice!

    You're gonna make someone cry.

Why are you mean?  Just come clean!

Don't pick on them or me.

Just stop bullying.  It's not cool.

If you keep it up, you'll be the fool!

    Reciting Poetry

In Year 4, this half term, children have been learning to recite poetry as part of their English skills.  Kalyan chose Grey Seal by Robert Macfarlane  Kalyan would like to share his top tips for how to remember the poem off by heart so that you do not need the words as you are reciting the poem.

    1.  Learn the first stanza so that you know it without looking at the words.

    2. Now focus on the second stanza and once you know this, add it to the first.

    3. Make sure you practise reading the stanzas with emphasis and add breaks in the right places.  Remember to pause after each line.

    4.  My poem had four stanzas so you keep building up learning new stanzas and adding them to the ones you have learnt.

    5.  When you are performing your poem, make sure you speak clearly and loud so that everyone can hear you.

    Let's meet our School Councillors

Children in Year 4 voted for their next school councillors this year and we welcome Yusuf, Dylan and Jeevan to the team.  We  look forward to hearing what ideas they bring to the meetings.

They have already held a non-uniform day to help raise money for our local charity and are now supporting the Black Country Foodbank charity to help families in need!

Autumn term for Year 4 has been a busy one.  In our Writing lessons, we have been reading 'The Lion and the Unicorn' by Shirley Hughes. The children have enjoyed writing a letter in the role of 'Lenny' who had been evacuated during World War 2.  They focused on different grammar aspects by creating a homophone helper and becoming a contraction surgeon.

    Learning during Autumn Term

During our Art and Design lessons, the children have researched different illustrators. They have then used the different mark making skills they learnt to create their own shared background and characters for 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak.  Our photo shows one group's working progress!

They have explored famous rivers and their features from round the world and have discussed how plastic is a major cause of pollution during Geography lessons and in PE, they have learnt the rules of Tag Rugby, developing their skills in evading a defender during a small sided game.  Science has been fun for the children as they learnt about the digestive system and how to keep our teeth healthy.  They were fascinated by the outcome of how different foods and drinks affected their teeth, using eggshell as a proxy!
