During Spring 2, Year 4 read 'Iron Man' by Ted Hughes in their writing lessons. They wrote a newspaper report on a mysterious discovery of a metallic hand found in the school playground and built up suspense whilst writing a narrative on their own mysterious creature. In reading lessons, they looked at the 'Story of Flight' and discovered how flying machines were first created and what the future of flight looks like.
In Maths, children have been busy comparing, ordering and rounding decimal numbers as well as recognising and writing decimal equivalent decimals for one-quarter, one-half and three-quarters. They have focused on reading, writing and converting time between analogue and digital clocks, including the 12-hour and 24-hour clocks, as well as solving problems involving time.
Continuing on from Spring 1, pupils used their knowledge of solids, liquids and gases in their science lessons to decide how different mixtures could be separated; through experiments they discovered which methods worked best.
Whilst learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Picts, the children used timelines to understand when and where they settled in Britain, analysed artefacts and sources to infer the lives of people during the time and explored how culture has influenced life today.
Year 4 have considered the different relationships they have with others around them and discussed healthy and unhealthy friendships in PSHE. In RE lessons, pupils have explored fairness and forgiveness through Christian parables. They then compared this to their own beliefs. For DT, pupils were challenged to evaluate, design and create a protype of an electronic charm for their target audience. They thought about the importance of having a point of sale and designed their own badge.
In PE lessons, children developed their cricket skills. They learnt to control, coordinate and consistent skills when throwing and catching a ball. Children have practised hitting a ball with increasing control and communicate, collaborate, and compete with others. During Computing lessons, pupils used 2Logo on Purple Mash to input simple instructions to create shapes in the most efficient way.
