At Park Hall Infant and Park Hall Junior Academy, our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure all children gain the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to succeed academically and personally. We want our children to become confident learners who remember what they have been taught; can talk confidently about their learning; and apply it across different subjects.
Our curriculum clearly sets out what children should learn, when they should learn it, and how learning builds progressively from Nursery through to Year 2 at the infant school and then Year 3 through to Year 6 at the junior school. In every subject, we identify the essential knowledge and skills children need to acquire and ensure these are revisited and developed over time so learning is secure, meaningful and long-lasting.
Across all subjects, leaders have carefully defined:
The essential knowledge and skills children need to learn
The small steps and building blocks that support progression from Nursery to Year 2
Opportunities for children to apply their learning through discussion, practical activities and problem-solving
How teachers check that children have been successful and can remember their learning over time

Teachers are supported with clear guidance about what to teach and how best to teach it. This allows them to focus on the most important content and ensures learning is sequenced effectively. Lessons are planned to help children revisit prior knowledge, make meaningful connections and embed learning into long-term memory.
We place a strong emphasis on talk and language across the curriculum. Children are encouraged to explain their thinking, ask questions and share ideas. This approach deepens understanding and helps children develop confidence, curiosity and independence in their learning.
Our curriculum is enriched with a range of opportunities that help children understand the wider world. Pupils enjoy music, performance and cultural experiences, including learning instruments, singing and dancing from different cultures. These experiences support children’s creativity, confidence and sense of belonging within our school community. They experience visits to places and visitors that support learning further.
