Spellings

 

We will focus on a different spelling rule every couple of weeks. Your teacher will share with you the spelling rule and the spellings that you need to learn (you will find the words in the document below). Some of the words are from our Year 5/6 word list. You need to practise spelling them before the spelling test which will take place on a Friday.

 

There are lots of different activities that you can do to help you learn your spellings. Some activities are listed below.

  • Look, cover, write, check
  • Write the words in alphabetical order
  • Use each word in a sentence
  • Write your words using one colour for the vowels and another colour for the consonants. (vowels: a, e, i, o, u)
  • Write your spelling words with different coloured pencils. Make each letter a different colour
  • Write your words in bubble writing
  • Create your own word search using the words
  • Try writing as many of the words as you can in one minute. Check the spelling when you have finished!
  • Write an acrostic poem
